What is ANSI/ISEA?
American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and International Safety Equipment Association (ISEA) have jointly developed a standard for high-visibility clothing. ANSI and ISEA are not government agencies but many states have adopted their standards. Class 1: not approved by most states and not approved by CALTRANS Class 2: vests are sleeveless with a minimum width of 1.375” reflective tape. Vest are medium visibility requirement for workers on and/or near roadways with speeds of 25 to 50 MPH in urban/suburban areas. Class 3: Vests have sleeves with minimum 2” reflective tape. Highest visibility requirements for worker in high risk situations on roads with traffic speeds over 50 MPH on highways and freeways. Flaggers should wear class 3 along with worker setting the traffic control.
You can always exceed your class but should not go below your class. |
